Hello Poudre Puppy Rescue,

I am sending you an update on Boots the black and white shiba/husky puppy I adopted from you in the beginning of April.  Zyllah Boots Donaldson is now a very active and healthy 11 pound puppy.  She is going to be starting agility soon and loves going to the dog parks to play with all the big dogs. She has learned several commands such as "sit", "stay", "down", "off", "drop it", "leave it", "up", and "stand" as well can play fetch and put the ball in your hand. (she is very very smart.) She is also completely potty trained and will go sit at the door when she needs to go out. She is a very happy puppy and loves her mommy very much.

We just wanted to share with Poudre Puppy Rescue about the best decision we made yet...adopting our dog from your organization.

We adopted our Bailey (used to be Fae when adopted) almost 2 years ago now. We loved her from the moment we saw her on Petfinder and thank you so much for bringing her into our lives.

She lived with us in Denver for 1.5 years where she loved playing in the snow. This summer, she traveled from Denver to Santa Barbara, CA with us, in the back seat; seeing all the sites along the way and staying in hotels with us. Now we live in sunny Santa Barbara where Bailey loves to sunbathe and go to the beach. She brings so much joy and love into our lives and we spoil her as her every dog deserves to be spoiled.

The thought that our Bailey could have had her life ended so early is so deeply saddening.
Thank you for what your organization does in your continued efforts to save dogs from kill shelters.

We know Bailey had sisters that were up for adoption when she was; we hope they all found happy homes as well
.
Thank you,

Katie and Ryan

Echo is an incredibly obedient and loving dog, and even gets along with our cat Shelby (most of the time!). After running out of ideas for things to teach him, we enrolled him in puppy training classes at Petsmart, and he went right into the intermediate class and is excelling! He already understands heel, however it doesn't go so well with other dogs around, because he loves other dogs as much as he loves people. Still working on keeping his attention through distractions, but he is definitely a pleasure and we feel so grateful to have him as a part of our lives.

I adopted Melbourne (Baby Girl when I got her) in July. She has been nothing but a joy... except for when she chews on things that are not her toys. She is the light of my life! This photo was taken on the day of her graduation from puppy class... smile and all! She looks nothing like she did as a puppy, like the other photo taken on the way to Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins. I love taking her on hikes (something that will actually wear her out). She absolutely loves other puppies... My parents have two back at home. We go to the dog park often and she always has so much fun. Her favorite game is tug of war. I am so glad that I chose to adopt her!
Thank you!
Allie

Dear Poudre Puppy Rescue:

My kids and I would like to start by saying thank you for giving us the opportunity to help out and foster puppies for your rescue. It was a wonderful experience. Everyone who is involved with PPR is so thoughtful, kind, and giving.  The rescue does so much for dogs that otherwise don’t even stand a chance. We are so grateful for our dogs that we adopted from PPR. They are a huge part of our family.

Below is part of our story and how we all came to be:

I grew up always having a dog in the family. About 8 years ago, we had a cocker spaniel, Mindy. She died one afternoon due to being attacked by a swarm of wasps. I have not had a dog since and always felt like there was something definitely missing in our home. Soon after my husband passed in 2005, I got a cat. Now she is a great cat and about the only one that I have ever liked or got along with, but still not the same as a dog. Then almost a year ago, we had someone break into our home. It shook me and the kids so bad, I had sleepless nights and the kids never felt comfortable in their beds or home again. This is about the time that we were introduced to Suzie. They say that the dog picks the owner and I know that is true. Suzie was the first dog that my son did not shy away from EVER. She climbed right up onto his lap and it was a done deal. Suzie is our sweetheart that needed a lot of love and understanding. Suzie brought peace and comfort to our home once again.

After adopting Suzie, we started to foster pups and that’s how our foster home failure came to be. We knew by fostering puppies that were high risk pups there would be times when we would have to help the pups, feed around the clock, and give them the fighting chance that they deserve. The litter that Rose was a part of came in with a total of 10 puppies, 5-6 weeks old. All of the pups were so malnourished and fighting for their lives. Rose happened to be the smallest one. We had to syringe feed her every hour and give liquids as often as we could. Rose spent 4 or 5 nights nestled on my robe on my chest while I slept on the couch. We couldn’t tell if she was still alive or not part of the time so that’s why she slept with me. I had to call on Joelle more than once to give her fluids. Then after many messy feedings, crying while trying to keep her warm and holding our breath every day when we went out to do our morning feedings just hoping she was still alive, she started to finally gain an ounce at a time and eat on her own. The day came when she was healthy enough to go out for her first adoption event. This is when I broke down in tears and told Joelle that there was no way Rose was going anywhere. She was truly a part of our family. Well I am happy to say that she went from 2 lbs at 5 wks to a healthy obnoxious 8 month old 50 lb puppy. Suzie and Rose have been a blessing to our family. I can’t imagine not having them around. Thank you so much for the sacrifices you all make for the animals you bring in. Thank you for all of your hard work and the love that you bring into our lives and homes.

Sincerely,

Jodie
